Certified Flight Instructor

A career as a certified flight instructor (CFI) can be very rewarding. In addition, it is a great way to make money, being paid to fly, and build valuable time. Another benefit of being a CFI is the opportunity to improve your flying skills. You will be amazed how much better you will become with the experience gain from being a CFI. Majestic Aviation has taught many new CFI students and has a fantastic first time pass rate! As a CFI, you are able to teach new flight students, commercial students, sport or recreational pilots, conduct flight reviews, serve as a safety pilot, give complex, tail wheel, and high performance training. This a very intense rating and involves a lot of classroom training learning and practicing how to teach, learning and interpreting regulations, studying resource material, and learning tricks of the trade on your journey to become a CFI. The cost of this program averages about $5995 and includes 7 hours of flying. Actual cost depends on your proficiency and knowledge.

Need to Know

    1. Must hold either a Commercial certificate or Airline Transport Certificate with appropriate category and class rating

    2. Must hold an instrument rating

    3. Must pass 2 required knowledge tests (FIA and FOI) with a minimum score of 70% on each

    4. Must pass a practical test with an FAA Inspector or authorized Designated Examiner

    5. Must log at least 15 hours as pilot in command in the appropriate category and class of aircraft

    6. Must have a complex aircraft endorsement

    7. Must have a spin endorsement

    1. Be at least 18 years old

    2. Be able to read, speak, write and understand the English language

    3. Receive and log ground training from an authorized instructor on the fundamentals of instructing in order to pass a Knowledge Test on:

      • The learning process

      • Elements of effective teaching

      • Student evaluation and testing

      • Course development

      • Lesson planning

      • Classroom training techniques

    4. Demonstrate instructional proficiency in stall awareness, spin entry, spins and spin recovery procedures

    5. Pass a Knowledge Test on the knowledge areas of taught to private, and commercial pilot applicants

    6. Pass a Practical (flight) Test
